Muskegon, MI

Welcome to Tim Hamlin, facilitator for our newest group in Muskegon, MI.  Tim and I met when I spoke to the Grand Rapids CFI.  This is the first group in Michigan.  Time already runs a CFI discussion group and noticed that many of their new members were recently out of religion.  He felt RR would be a help for them and others.

Chariots of Iron Podcast

If you listen to Podcasts, Chariots of Iron is one of the best Freethinker podcasts on the web.  This week I did an interview with them on Recovering from Religion and discussed several aspects of RR mentioning several of our meetings.  Here is the link or you can listen to it through iTunes:   http://www.chariotsofiron.com/2010/06/548

Dave Duffy in San Mateo has gotten off to a good start.  I was struck by a comment one of his participants left on his RR meetup site.  It is something I hear a lot when I attend RR groups:

“I was blown away by how many similarities some of us in the group had with one another. And at the same time, there was something to learn from everyone. I've attended many meetings about non-belief, but this was the most enjoyable. Thanks for taking the time to organize this meetup David!”

No matter what religion one comes from, the impacts and manipulations are remarkably the same.

A Ninth Grader’s assignment.  Jacob, a ninth grade non-theist was asked to write a myth for his English class.  His mother is an RR member and gave it to me.  I thought it was hilarious and very insightful for someone of any age.  Here is the link if you want to get the real story on creation, life and the god that did it all:  The One, Single and Only God

I will be traveling to Ireland and speaking to Atheist Ireland on July 16 about The God Virus and Recovering from Religion.  I hope to see some groups get started after my visit.

The SECULAR Center continues to provide support for RR. Please take advantage of the FORUM at http://groups.google.com/group/recovering-from-religion/topics

There are some great discussions and stories at our Recovering from Religion group on Atheist Nexus:  http://www.atheistnexus.org/group/recoveringreligionists?xg_source=activity

If you are not a member of A/N join then join the RR group on A/N.  I think you will be amazed at what people are talking about and may find some of their stories are similar to your own.
